I'm new here, and am looking forward to picking ya'lls brains about growing CP's.
My 1st CP was a VFT that I got in the gift shop at the Boston Museum of Science @ 1967 or so. It came in one of those egg-shaped domes. I remember the instructions were to keep it wet under the dome and in the sun. Yeah. It died fairly quickly. I don't think my constant poking at it helped much either. I was 7yo, go figure.
My interest renewed in CP's when I was hiking an old rail trail a few miles from my house here in Worcester. I took a side path to go look at a creek and small pond. It was there that I came upon as small patch of Sarracenia pupurea in full bloom. I didn't even know that pitcher plants grew here, so it was off to the internet I went. And after research, the CP bug bit me again.
I just planted a VFT I bought through eBay today. It's in a mesh pot with long fiber sphagnum moss as the substrate. It was a hot-house plant, so it's acclimating in a windowed muck room for a few days before it gets out into the full sun.
Eventually I'd like to create a portable/moveable mini-bog with pitchers, flytraps and sundews. I'd even like to try setting up a small 2 gallon fish tank for waterwheel plants.
Oh well, I guess I've rambled on enough. Really glad I found the web site and this forum. I look forward to going to the big meet in October.
