To post photos in the forum you will need to link to an image hosted elsewhere.
The best way to get your pictures online is to sign up for a free picture hosting service. (Do a Google search on “free picture hosting”)
Large images should be resized. Images taken directly from your camera or phone may simply be too large. Large images take longer load and can slow down viewing the forum. An image taken directly from your camera may need to be reduced in size by up to 75% or more.
When composing your message click on the icon 'Insert Image'. This will insert a set of image tags [ IMG ] and [ /IMG ] into your message.
Open another internet browser window and find the target image you want to insert.
RIGHT CLICK on the target image and select 'Properties'. A status window will open with information relating to the picture including a reference called Address (URL), which will usually begin with http:// and (commonly) end with .bmp .gif or .jpg.
It may show COPY IMAGE URL or COPY IMAGE LOCATION or something of that nature.
Copy the whole of this URL and when composing your forum message paste the url between the [ img ] and [ /img ] tags.
For those who may be looking for a site to host their photos here are a few of the most popular ones.
Flickr Just Got Better Bigger: Others measure in gigabytes. Flickr gives you 1000x the space: a free terabyte. Whenever: Upload once, send to any device, any screen, any friend and any follower. Spectacular: All of your photos saved in their full resolution and original quality, beautifully displayed.
What would be the best way to post pix in our forum? Should I create an album using one of the sites you listed above? Then how do I link it to this forum so people can see my pix directly in the threads?
Yes you will first need to upload your photos to a photo hosting site. Many people use Imageshack or Photobucket. A quick Google search will turn up many sites that will let you host images for free. Here's a link to a list of many of them: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_photo-sharing_websites
Then once you have uploaded your photos somewhere you can hot-link to them so that they can be viewed in the forum by using the INSERT IMAGE Icon when you create a post. You will need to enter the URL for the photo when adding it here. You can get the URL for the image by Right-clicking on it and selecting VIEW IMAGE or COPY IMAGE LOCATION from your browser. It may be worded differently depending upon the browser you use.
Try it yourself using the image URL above and you will see how easy it really is. One thing to remember though is that if you delete the image from wherever it is being hosted it will no longer be visible in the forum. We can host some photos on the NECPS website in the Photo Gallery there but they would have to be sent to me first so I could add them. The most convienient way is to find a place where you can host them yourself.
I hope that helps some
